An inspiring exhibition, Walk On: 40 Years of Art Walking, from Richard Long to Janet Cardiff, has come to a close at the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art in Sunderland, England. The above contraption, which literally let the wearer follow the wind, was part of it. Work by internationally acclaimed artists such as Hamish Fulton and Marina Abramovic is featured, among all manner of film, sculpture and multi-media creativity. (Hamish’s website is pretty cool, too.) The exhibition, co-curated by artist/professor Mike Collier, who kindly showed me around the gallery and the community when I was in Sunderland this past summer, is heading to Birmingham next. After that, who knows? Maybe a gallery near you.
